February 26, 2015 Incredible floating stage on Lake Constance in Bregenz, Austria. The Bregenzer Festspiele (Bregenz Festival) has become renowned for its unconventional staging of shows. Verdi’s opera, “A Masked Ball” in 1999, featured a giant book being read by a skeleton. via The Telegraph. Is this cool, or what?! Thoughts? Until next time… ~Hospitality Shero

Competence is a RARE Commodity!

February 23, 2015 How many of you enjoy dealing with incompetence? You know what? I HATE IT! It’s so important to love what you do! If you are in a place that makes you utterly unhappy, to the point where you absolutely HATE going in to work, then it’s time to re-evaluate some things in your life. You know why? Because you probably aren’t giving it your all! Let me tell you something: people are WATCHING you! Your customers (even over the phone, they can tell when you aren’t in it), your employers, your co-workers. Your unhappiness will eventually show through in your lack of competence and the work you produce. So guess what…. Love what you do. Get good at it! Let the chips fall where they may. Until next time… ~Hospitality Shero

America’s Most Romantic Cities

February 20, 2015 With the right travel companion, big cities can feel wonderfully intimate—and these stole the hearts of T+L readers. Consider yourself warned: Charleston, SC, is hard to shake. “If you come to Charleston and experience it like us locals do, it will forever take place in your soul,” says David Szlam, a co-creator of Virgil Kaine ginger-infused bourbon. “Dining at Bowens Island Restaurant is especially romantic, watching the sun set over tidal creeks while enjoying some fresh steamed oysters—the list goes on and on.” The Travel + Leisure community doesn’t need convincing. Charleston, with its cobblestoned streets, genteel mansions, and dynamic food scene, took top honors as the best city for a romantic escape in the America’s Favorite Places survey. Readers ranked cities in up to 67 categories, including wine bars, parks and gardens, live music, and brunch—the kinds of offerings that often attract couples. And don’t underestimate the allure of a warm climate: San Diego, voted No. 1 for its weather, came in fifth among the best cities for romance. “The days …

Our Very Own Employee Saves a Condominium Resident from an Assault!

February 18, 2015 True story. One of our employees, who shall remain anonymous, was working in a luxury condo building when this crime took place. Mind you, he is one of our newest hires, just a few months with us, which makes this all the more special!!! So glad to have him as part of the team! The good ones are like diamonds in the rough! Original article, which was featured in the Washington Post, a major D.C. area newspaper: Concierge stops man lurking behind plant from assaulting woman A concierge came to the rescue Tuesday morning when a woman was assaulted by a man lurking in the vestibule of her apartment building. The 20-year-old woman stepped into the entrance way of her building in the 1900 block of Clarendon Boulevard at 8:05 a.m. to check whether her Uber driver had arrived, Arlington police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said. A man who had been standing behind a potted bamboo plant in the vestibule grabbed her from behind. A concierge in the lobby of the building saw …

Quote of the Week

February 17, 2015 You ever had the opportunity to work in a group or on a team? Remember the experience(s)? There’s always that one group member who is slacking big time and holding up progress. So what happens? One of two things: either the whole team is penalized for the slacker’s slack (lol), or you all manage to get it done, but there’s a lot of animosity and anger at the end, when there should be excitement and relief. Back in undergrad school, in Corporate Finance, the professor actually gave us a project/paper to write. First and foremost, does anyone see ANYTHING wrong with having to write a PAPER in a Corporate Finance class???? Okay, I digress. Anyway, there were several parts to it, which included A LOT of calculations in Excel. Well, guess who ended up doing the first TWO parts because the first two group members kept crying about all the other work they had and how they didn’t understand anything, when all they had to do was ask for help (you know, …

February 16, 2015 We all would LOVE to get customers and keep customers, right? I mean, who wouldn’t? But, have you ever thought about WHY customers leave and why they stay? From personal experiences, do you have reasons why you stayed committed to a particular company or brand? Are there reasons why you left and decided to never go back? Let’s explore several areas: Quality. Are you familiar with Brooks Brothers? Brooks Brothers, my TOP clothing store for all things professional, is a VERY high-end clothing retailer for women and men. Some stores also cater to children. Why do I love Brooks Brothers so much? Pay attention to the quality of the service or product you are giving to your customers. Put yourself in their shoes. Would YOU be happy if YOU were on the other end? Advice. Sometimes, customers might not know the intricate details of what they …

Utah luxury: 7 high-end travel experiences you won’t believe!

February 13, 2015 1. Hiding out at Amangiri in Canyon Point Like a water-filled uber-minimalist mirage, Amangiri blends right in with itsdesert surroundings near the Arizona-Utah border. Hidden among ancient mesas and rock formations, the 600-acre property is so secluded and so focused on relaxation that you don’t have much of a choice but to sit back and allow yourself to slip into a state of near-constant meditation. Each room at Amangiri has its own private courtyard entry, furnishings that elicit overuse of the word “zen,” and massive glass doors that open onto an outdoor living space with resting mattresses, a fireplace, and a human-free view of the surrounding wilderness. The grounds have several marked trails for hiking, plus a few naturalists and archaeology/geology experts on hand to help you understand what you’re looking at as you go. Multiple guided via ferrata routes access summit views that aren’t available to hikers, as long as you’re willing to strap on a harness and clip and navigate a series of fixed cables, rungs, and pegs sticking straight …
